The council is developing the Darlaston Strategic Development Area (SDA) Access Project to improve access to key employment development sites in the Darlaston Green area of the borough (located between junctions 9 and 10 of the M6 motorway). This major transport scheme involves a series of transport improvements to the local highway network. The improvements are aimed at reducing the impact of congestion for existing traffic and improving access to key employment sites. The scheme proposals include: remediation of contaminated land; junction improvements; improvements to existing links; road re-alignments; new canal structures; and new rail structures. The transport proposals are part of a wider project being developed in partnership with the regional development agency – Advantage West Midlands – and Walsall Regeneration Company to remediate and regenerate a large area of redundant and contaminated land. The council intends to coordinate the proposed highway improvements with the completion of remediation works on a key employment development site.
